Since it opened in 2010, Marquee has been the swish Xinyi district, earning the respect of, and regular appearances by, celebrities and industry insiders alike. Double doors give onto a wide-open space dominated by a massive wraparound bar and layered in dark wood, with velvet-upholstered seating nooks and dangling lighting fixtures adding a touch of Victorian grandeur. Yet this “premium bar-lounge” is anything but pompous; the highly trained mixologists take visible pride in their craft and are happy to make recommendations from a menu that includes many of their personal creations.
The place also attracts a friendly, diverse mix of people by hosting a wide range of events and theme nights, from jazz to old-school R&B. Marquee’s location in the heart of Xinyi clubland makes it a popular place for clubbers to “pregame” before they move on to somewhere rowdier.
